The purpose
The page is a bill, a reminder, a notice, or an appointment. That is the first thing you need.
A few words on the card for what the letter is.
Scan or import a letter. The app, or your Mac, reads the purpose and pulls out the amount and the deadline. You can set a reminder or a calendar event. Search a word and the scanned paper comes back.
Scan a letter on your iPhone or iPad. Add your Mac for a more accurate read.
Install DocsForMe from the App Store on your iPhone or iPad, and optionally on an Apple silicon Mac. The app works on iPhone or iPad alone. Using both together is recommended for a more accurate result. Same Wi-Fi. No account.
Works on iPhone or iPad alone. A Mac is optional, and more accurate.

To-dos (Click to check off)
Every amount and date links to the line in the letter it came from. You can only correct a field with another value from the letter.
Organized automatically into your designated folder on macOS. Searchable in Finder and Spotlight via full OCR text index.
The letter
They are already in the paragraph. The card above is those answers.
The page is a bill, a reminder, a notice, or an appointment. That is the first thing you need.
A few words on the card for what the letter is.
A bill names a figure in a sentence, next to other figures. You need the one to pay.
One amount on the card, and the line in the letter it came from.
A payment, a reply, or an appointment has a day. A duration counts from the day the letter arrives: Zahlung innerhalb eines Monats nach Zugang.
Received 2 Oct 2026, that month is due 2 Nov 2026. Overdue and due soon stay in their own lists. A reminder is optional.
You will need this letter again. Today it lives in a drawer, in Downloads, or in a photo.
A searchable PDF in a folder you pick.
Privacy
On iPhone or iPad the letter stays on that device. If you also use a Mac, pages travel only between your devices, over your local network. DocsForMe has no server that receives your letters, and they are not sent to a remote model.
| Privacy Criterion | DocsForMe | Conventional Cloud Scanners |
|---|---|---|
| Document Processing | On your iPhone, iPad, or Mac | Processed on the provider's servers |
| Account & Personal Data | Zero accounts, no registration, no tracking SDKs | Usually an account, and often tracking |
| Offline Operation | Full scanning, reading & filing works with internet OFF | Usually needs an internet connection |
| Network Encryption | Local Wi-Fi TLS-PSK (HKDF-SHA256 in Keychain) | Remote company servers over public internet |
| Data Deletion & Erasure | Synchronous local delete (images, DB, PDF, events) | Stored on the provider's servers under its retention policy |
Letters are processed on your iPhone or iPad and your paired Mac. The developer does not receive letter text, amounts, or sender names.
iPhone and iPad need no model download. If you add a Mac, it downloads its reading model once, and that download does not contain the letter. After that, scanning and reading run with the internet off.
Pages go to the Mac over your local Wi-Fi, encrypted in transit. If the link is down, AirDrop is the fallback, and the Mac picks the file up from Downloads.
On the phone, delete removes the pages, the card, and the reminders and calendar events this app added. You can tick other devices that should drop their copy. On the Mac, delete removes the PDF and the data file beside it.
No account, no DocsForMe server, no ads, no tracking.
One app, two parts
Works on its own. Pair an Apple silicon Mac for a more accurate result. The Mac result replaces the phone read.
Drag and drop, or Import from iPhone or iPad.
Features
Each card carries a summary in English and German, so a German letter is readable on an English screen. The interface is in English and German (formal Sie).
Lanes for all, overdue, due soon, needs review, and waiting for the Mac. Agenda on both devices, and a month calendar on the Mac.
The event title never includes an amount or a reference. To-dos can be marked done.
On iPhone and iPad it asks for Face ID, Touch ID, or the device passcode. On the Mac it asks for Touch ID or your Mac password. You choose how long the app can be away before it asks.
Find it later
The word you remember is the sender, the year, or Frist. The Mac has written a searchable PDF, and a data file beside it, into a folder you pick. Tags on the PDF let Finder and Spotlight find it too.
You choose the folder order (Click pattern to test preview)
Change the order and new letters follow it. Letters already filed move when you confirm. File names are <date>_<sender>_<subject>.pdf.
The Mac searches the filed letters, including their text, plus type, year, tag, and what is due. Phone and iPad search the letters on that device: sender, type, subject, reference.
Set up once
iPhone and iPad are ready when the app is installed. The Mac takes longer the first time: it downloads a reading model, about 6 GB, once. That download does not contain the letter. After it finishes, reading and filing run with the internet off.
From the App Store. No model download. Scan or import a letter and the read is on that device.
From the Mac App Store, on an Apple silicon Mac. The first launch downloads the reading model and checks it. Give it a few minutes on Wi-Fi. A phone hotspot works if you want that download on mobile data. The wait is one time. What you get is the more accurate read, and the filed PDF, on your Mac.
Pair once with a 6-digit code. Both devices stay on the same Wi-Fi. The Mac result replaces the phone read and files the PDF.
Everything you need to know about local processing, hardware pairing, and document security.

Yes. DocsForMeScan on iPhone or iPad scans pages and builds a quick-read card with the amount, the date, and to-dos. Pairing an Apple silicon Mac is optional. The Mac read is more accurate and replaces the phone card, and the Mac files a searchable PDF.
An iPhone or iPad on iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 is enough. DocsForMeScan works on its own. An Apple silicon Mac on macOS 14 is optional, and recommended when you want a more accurate read and a searchable PDF in a folder you choose.
Yes. On iPhone and iPad, scanning and the quick read need no model download and run without the internet. On a Mac, the reading model downloads once, about 6 GB, and that file does not contain your letter. After that, reading and filing run with the internet off.
No. DocsForMe has no server that receives your letters. Pages stay on the iPhone or iPad. If you use a Mac, pages travel only over your local Wi-Fi, encrypted, or by AirDrop. The only internet download is the Mac reading model, and it does not contain the letter.
Yes. That includes letters from the Finanzamt, other authorities, and a health insurer, as well as invoices and reminders. DocsForMe reads the printed German and shows a summary in English and in German.
English and German letters: invoices, payment reminders, utility bills, tenancy agreements, tax notices, bank letters, and appointments. Each card has a summary in English and in German.
In a folder you choose on your Mac, such as Documents or an external drive. The Mac writes a searchable PDF and a data file beside it. There is no DocsForMe account and no cloud copy.
The Mac downloads its reading model once, about 6 GB, and checks the file. That one-time download keeps the App Store install small. The download does not contain your letter. After it finishes, the Mac reads and files with the internet off.
No. It shows the amount and the deadline, and you can add an Apple Reminder or a calendar event. It does not start a bank transfer, send a reply, or replace legal or tax advice.
